What If Rejection Is Ruining Your Life

with

Kait Warman & Hailey Kenyon

Kait and Hailey share their past with rejection, lies they’ve believed, and how they have rewritten their rejection stories.

Rejection Hurts

  • Emotional pain is closely related to physical pain.
  • Heart break can actually feel heart broken, really painful.

Kait’s Story

  • Rejection from a former boyfriend, Chris.
  • Awesome guy, christian guy, all her friends and family loved him, and believed they would be together.
  • 6 months in he said he wasn’t sure he had peace about marrying her.
  • Ended up rejecting Kait, and causing a heart break.
  • This led to the biggest lie about rejection for Kait: I’m good, but never enough.
  • Outwardly she’s an enneagram 3, career woman, knows how to put herself together but inwardly there’s a lie that once people really get to know her, her brokenness, and past, that she’s never enough.

Hailey’s Story

  • Hailey had a relationship with a guy and remembers sitting out on the curb in front of her house breaking up with her when he had just said I love you that morning.
  • He said, “You are the closest thing to perfect, but it’s not working.”
  • This led to the biggest lie about rejection for Hailey: If these guys are rejecting me there’s no way I’m worthy of the right guy.
  • Hailey would be all in with guys as soon as they we’re in a relationship and feel like they were these amazing guys and then after the break up friends would tell her they knew it wouldn’t work out. So somewhere along the way, she missed the memo that these guys weren’t good enough for her.
  • She was putting her identity and worth in what those guys thought of her in the context of a romantic relationship instead of in Christ.

Takeaways

  • You have to know your biggest lie of rejection so you can see it when it’s coming.
  • First I need to realize it’s okay to not have a perfect story, to still be in process. My only promise can really only be that I can be humble to admit my wrongs and keep working on it.
  • When we relieve the pressure, we can date from a place where I don’t need to be perfect, and need you to like me and choose me because I already am those good things.
  • In rejection we tend to give the other person so much power to be able to hurt us that badly.
  • Reframe the rejection, and not make it about you. It’s about them not being in the right place to be in that relationship and that’s okay.
  • Rejection is a redirection to something better.
  • You are a powerful, strong person, you can take your power back and you can allow rejection to not hurt you so much.
  • Rejection Shield: Write down your biggest lies about rejection and heartbreak, and start rejecting those with the truth of what God says about you, what His word says, and the character of God.
