Hey hey! Today we have a story that is bound to encourage you no matter where you are in your dating journey. We’re sitting down with Deangelo and Whitney Moss as they walk us through their unique social media love storyWe’ve got rejections, healing, and ultimately, God’s perfect timing in bringing them together. This isn’t your average “met at church” couple, so buckle up, get ready to laugh, and celebrate the beauty of patience, resilience, and faithful pursuit.
Whitney is a comedian and content creator who became known for her hilarious and honest takes on Christian singleness and dating, including the now legendary viral prayer video and infamous wig moment. Deangelo, founder of Free by Truth, is passionate about helping others find freedom from addiction through biblical principles. Together, they bring faith, joy, and purpose to everything they do.
Whitney was going viral on Instagram for videos about singleness when Deangelo spotted her online. After seeing one particularly memorable video where her wig flew off as she talked about the goodness of God (08:29), he was hooked. Not just by the laughs, but by her authenticity and her faith.
But popping into her DMs didn’t get him far…at first. Deangelo Moss sent “how you doing?” messages, supportive comments, and even offered a paid collab! But Whitney was not responding. It took TWO YEARS and a $5 Instagram subscriber DM to finally get on her radar (12:22).
Here’s where the story gets especially powerful for anyone feeling discouraged in their own pursuit. Deangelo didn’t let a few “nos” crush his confidence (00:12, 31:24). He kept it respectful, consistent, and non-pressure the whole time. Interested, but not demanding; confident, but not entitled.
When they finally connected, it was through thoughtful, open-ended conversations. They exchanged LONG Instagram DMs, getting to know each other’s hearts, faith, and purpose before even meeting up in person (15:24).
Once D'Angelo got Whitney talking, he kept it creative: offering options (game night, basketball, pickleball) for their first meetup, tailoring it to her interests (19:16). Pickleball was the winner and when Whitney saw him in person, her first thought was, “That man handsome.” (20:51). The “attraction barrier” fizzled in real life.
From there, they moved to business meetings, lunch, and a football game, taking intentional steps while keeping things platonic until hearts started to change (25:05).
This episode is a masterclass in healthy, non-creepy persistence. Deangelo shares how men can pursue while respecting boundaries and embracing their own value, even in the face of “nos” and slow starts (30:37). Whitney is candid about needing time to open up and truly see his heart, and about how safe, pressure-free pursuit can create space for genuine connection and healing.
Key Advice:
Whitney and Deangelo open up about dating in their 30s, combining two independent lives, learning to consider each other, overcome self-sabotage, and communicate through past wounds (43:12). It’s not all sunshine: there were real “popcorn moments” as they navigated private versus public life as influencers, and the tiny fights that every couple has (46:02).
Unlike many influencer couples, they kept their dating and marriage private. No early “soft launch,” no engagement reels (52:20). For them, protecting what mattered most and avoiding outside “noise” let them build a solid foundation before sharing their joy with the world.
